posted at All Rights ReservedOffering visitors a unique aerial perspective of the Aloha State for the past 28 years, Blue Hawaiian Helicopters has earned numerous awards and recognitions. Among these, the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences bestowed on the company its rare Green Star Diamond Award. The prestigious honor is awarded to a handful of hospitality industry enterprises that meet high standards of environmental responsibility.

In receiving the Green Star Diamond Award, the company was singled out for its efforts to spearhead the development of the 21st-century EC130 Eco-Star helicopter, and owning Hawaii’s largest fleet by far of these state-of-the-art touring machines. Utilizing advanced technologies, the Eco-Star helps to preserve enjoyment of Hawaii’s pristine ecosystems by reducing noise over the ground by fifty percent. Since its founding in 1985, Blue Hawaiian Helicopters has been dedicated to a community-centric approach that makes noise abatement a top priority, while emphasizing the value of ecotourism to the state. Further reflecting Blue Hawaiian’s environmental commitment, the Academy noted that the company makes 90 percent of its electricity requirements at its Maui Operations Center through a vast solar array it installed across the roofs of its two main buildings.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters’ Kauai ECO Adventure

As the only helicopter tour company that serves the entire Aloha State—Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island—Blue Hawaiian Helicopters offers aerial tours that take guests to many of the state’s most spectacular and remote locales. For those visiting Kauai, also known as the “Garden Island,” Blue Hawaiian features the 55-minute Kauai ECO Adventure, which lets guests experience the very best of what many call “the world’s most beautiful island.”

Aboard one of the company’s new, state-of-the-art Eco-Star helicopters, the world’s most advanced touring helicopter, the flight glides through Hanapepe Valley to Mana Waiapuna, famously known as “Jurassic Park” Falls for its appearance in the blockbuster film (for which Blue Hawaiian flew the aerial photography!). An early highlight is Waimea Canyon, known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” for its diversity of rock formations and sheer natural beauty. The breathtaking forest-cloaked ridges of the Na Pali Coast come next: This stunning 15-mile stretch of coastline features majestically sculpted cliffs that drop thousands of feet directly into the Pacific Ocean. Fast-flowing streams and waterfalls punctuate the narrow valleys between ridges, and stone-walled terraces at the bottoms of the valleys mark areas where isolated communities of Hawaiians cultivated taro.

Following visits to Hanalei Bay and the Bali Hai cliffs, the tour concludes with an unforgettable trip (weather permitting) to the extinct Mount Waialeale volcano, which is the wettest place on earth and features 3,000-foot waterfalls. The Kauai ECO Adventure departs multiple times daily from Lihue Heliport.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters: Recommended by Frommer’s Hawaii

In business for nearly three decades, Blue Hawaiian Helicopters receives numerous accolades year after year, making it the most honored helicopter tour company in the world. Among its many recognitions, it has received the coveted “Recommended” status from Frommer’s Hawaii every year since the mid-1990s, and the travel publication describes the company as “The Cadillac of helicopter tour companies.”

Frommer’s Hawaii also explains that Blue Hawaiian’s helicopter pilots serve a multifaceted role. In addition to taking guests safely over some of the state’s most beautiful scenery, most of which can only be experienced by air, every Blue Hawaiian pilot is a State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guide. They describe flora, fauna, ancient culture, history, and geology in exciting detail, affording visitors new perspectives on an endlessly varied island chain. Frommer’s notes that the pilots are knowledgeable about a wide range of facets of island life, from “vulcanology to Hawaiian lore.”

Only Blue Hawaiian goes the extra mile in its pilot training, not only with its own state-of-the-art flight simulator (the only one owned by a helicopter tour company in Hawaii), and its annual FAA and factory recurrent training, but by having every one of its pilots study for and pass the rigorous requirements to become a State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guide.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, the Movie Professionals

Over the last century, filmmakers have traveled to Hawaii numerous times for the beautiful scenery and unparalleled romance of the islands. Yet the prospect of capturing aerial views of the spectacular Hawaiian landscape can be challenging, especially with multi-million dollar budgets on the line. And for many years, Blue Hawaiian Helicopters has been the first-call helicopter tour company of choice for top Hollywood producers and filmmakers.

During the early 1990s, legendary director Steven Spielberg commissioned Blue Hawaiian to capture footage of the Hawaiian islands for his blockbuster film Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Blue Hawaiian also assisted the producers of Disney’s Pearl Harbor, which used aerial scenes from the real Pearl Harbor on Oahu.

Other movies that enlisted the company’s aerial photography services include, just to name a few: Flight of the Intruder, Crimson Tide, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Tropic Thunder, Honeymoon in Vegas, and the recent Battleship. Blue Hawaiian has also worked with a number of television producers, including National Geographic, the Food Channel, MTV, and the Weather Channel.

And the Travel Channel, in judging the “World’s Top Helicopter Thrills,” voted Blue Hawaiian’s tours of the Big Island’s Kilauea Volcano #1.

Typically presented to only the cream of five- and six-star hotels, cruise lines and restaurants world wide, the coveted “International Star Diamond Award for Outstanding Quality and Service” from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences is considered to be the most prestigious recognition in the entire travel industry. Blue Hawaiian Helicopters is the only activity company in the world, of any kind, to receive this exclusive award, and it has received it every year since 1995.
